Join The Jubilee

The last dream I remember
I was running, running, running
Alone across the winter world
I know not where or why.
And up along the canyon wall
There were silhouettes and shadows
Like a multitude of some unknown host
Watching from on high.

And I lay there half awake, asleep,
And thought about my life.
I thought about my life.

If I could I surely would play the slide guitar
Take a chance, learn to dance
And bless my lucky star.
I would sing to you like a mockingbird
From the top of the tallest tree
And join the jubilee.

There was a time when I would
Hurl hosannas to the sun.
Too often lately I’ve become
The weary, wary one.
Who thinks he’s burned at every turn,
Who fears he’s been misled.
Who will not deal with his desires
But turns away instead.
And I ramble half awake, asleep,
And think about my life.
I think about my life.
If I could I surely would play the slide guitar
Take a chance, learn to dance
And bless my lucky star.
I would sing to you like a mockingbird
From the top of the tallest tree
And join the jubilee.

When the bad news makes me bitter,
And the TV turns me numb
And I hide inside a jingle
And a jangle and a strum.
When my foot comes down on shaky ground
As I step outside my cell.
And I fear the world is turning dark,
And I have turned as well.

Then the faces of my children
Fill my soul with light.
And I believe it’s worth the fight.
If I could I surely would play the slide guitar
Take a chance, learn to dance
And bless my lucky star.
I would sing to you like a mockingbird
From the top of the tallest tree
And join the jubilee.
