Can we get a dog? Mom said, “Yes.”
We looked at Dad. “Hmmm, I guess,
Might be nice to have a dog around.
Let’s go pick out a puppy at the Pound.”

We saw Bulldog, Boxer, Mastiff, Malamute.
Dogs so weird and ugly they were cute.
We saw Bloodhound, Coonhound,
Wolfhound and Shar-Pei.
Setters and Retrievers, and one Bichon Frisé.

We got a little puppy at the Pound,
A Lab / Poodle mixed with Bassett Hound.
She’s exactly what we need:
A perfect smorgas-breed.
She sheds a little, barks now and then,
And when Dad calls, he has to call again.
But she’s the happiest, friendliest dog around:
We got the perfect puppy at the Pound!
